After not being given a chance during her childhood, Courtney Davis was flunked constantly in school. Then she came to Second Chance and took advantage of the GED program. By taking advantage of the GED program and passing she said it gave her a boost in her self esteem because she only came in with not even an eighth grade education. She gained an associates in psychology. To help keep these people with hope please donate to the cause.

Growing up on the westside of Chicago it was really tough to get a lot of support and resources to help me succeed. Through a flyer for One Summer Chicago, I was able to be apart of the Second Chance Community Organization. This was my first job at the age of 14. I was grateful to have this opportunity because a lot of kids my age that are in my community didn’t have a job. Mrs. Hogan was very understanding and welcomed me with opened arms. She taught me the skills of responsibility. I was able to be more open minded and was able to do things outside of my comfort zone. All of this cause me to mature a lot. The skills I learned from Second Chance, I used in school, at home, and in my community. I was open to doing different activities in school, stay on top of my school work, and give back to my community through service. I am grateful to have a safe place I could come to during the summer to enhance my skills and make connections.  To help keep these students and many more with hope please Click here to donate to the cause.

Since growing up on the westside, God is an important part of my life. Through my pastor I was able to find Second Chance through Austin Chamber of Commerce. At Second Chance I learned communication, networking, and conflict- resolution skills. I was able to use the skills I learned from Second Chance in college when considering joining RSO’s and other organizations at my university, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. My interest in group work grew which caused me to be open to more networking opportunities. With the help of Second Chance I am able to find work during the summer to make many to help pay for my school books.  To help keep these students and many more with hope please       Click here to donate to the cause.

Living on the westside with both parents and a grandmother, I had a little advantage, but when it came to opportunities in the community I was at a disadvantage. There weren’t  many places I could go to get help or gain any necessary skills. I went to a public grammar school and went to George Westinghouse College Prep for high school. Through a flyer for One Summer Chicago, I was able to be apart of the Second Chance Community Organization. I learned communication, organization, and conflict- resolution skills. I used these skills throughout my last year of highschool and after.  To help keep these students and many more with hope please Click here to donate to the cause.
